Admission Requirements and Programme information – Educational Management:
Admission Policy

Admission into Bachelor’s degree programme in Educational Management is done through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or direct Entry by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The entry requirements seek to ensure that those admitted have necessary aptitude to benefit from the programme.

Admission through UTME

Candidates seeking admission through UTME for any of three programmes in the Department of Educational Management should meet the University, College and Department requirements and the following requirements in addition to the specific requirement of each degree programme.

1.       West African School Certificate (WASC), General Certificate of Education-Ordinary level (GCE) or West Africa Senior School Certificate (W.S.S.C.). National Examination Council (NECO) or its equivalent with at least credit passes in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings or equivalent qualifications such as merit in Teachers Grade II Certificate in approved subjects which is recognized as equivalent to credit in the West African  School Certificate (WASSC).

2.       Satisfactory performance in the Joint Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB) Examination for admission into Universities.

3.       Satisfactory performance in the Post-UTME screening examination conducted by the university.  

Admission by Direct Entry

Candidates seeking admission into the department by Direct Entry should possess, in addition to the ordinary level requirements, one of the following:

i. General Certificate of Education (GCE A/L) at Advanced level in at least two relevant subjects

ii. Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE) with a minimum of merit in the relevant subject(s) from recognized institutions.

In addition to the end-of-semester examination, students’ performance is continuously assessed throughout the semester by means of tests, assignments and term papers, performance by course examination carries 70%, while continuous assessment carries 30%.

Duration of Degree Programme

The Bachelors’ degree programmes of the Department for UME candidates last for four years (100-400 Levels). However, a student repeating courses may be allowed to remain on the programme for a maximum of six years. Direct entry students placed at 200 Level on admission are allowed a maximum of five years to complete the B.Ed. programme. Any student that fails to complete the programme at the end of the maximum time allowed for the programme will be advised to permanently withdraw.

B.Sc. BUSINESS EDUCATION DEGREE PROGRAMME
Degree Offered

Business Education programme offers Bachelor of Science in Business Education.

Business Education offers two degree programmes:

(i)      a 4-year standard programme for UME entrance candidates; and

(ii)      a 3-year programme for direct entry candidates.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For admission into any of the degree programmes, prospective candidates must satisfy the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike minimum entry requirements and should also meet the following departmental requirements:

(a)        4-Year Degree programme

Candidates must satisfy the minimum university entry requirements of credit passes in five subjects obtained at SSCE/ NECO/ NABTEB/ GCE ‘O’ Level which must include, English language, Mathematics and any of the following subjects: Economics, Commerce, Financial Accounting, Typewriting.

(b)        3-Year Degree Programme

Any of the following:

(i)   Two ‘A’ level passes plus credits in English Language and Mathematics obtained at SSCE/ NECO/ NABTEB / GEC ‘O’ level.

 

(ii)  A minimum of, at least, merit level pass at NCE Business Education plus credits in English Language and Mathematics obtained at SSCE/ NECO/ NABTEB/ GCE ‘O’ level.

 

(iii) A minimum of lower credit pass at ND Secretarial Studies/ Administration from any recognized polytechnic plus credit passes in English Language and, Mathematics obtained at SSCE/ NECO/ NABTEB/ GCE ‘O’ level.

 

(iv)  Full Technical Certificate / National Secretarial Examination Certificate at Advanced level in Business Studies plus credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any of the following: Economics, Commerce Secretarial Duties, Accounting or Typewriting obtained at SSCE/ NECO/ NABTEB/ GCE ‘O’ level.

 
B.Sc. ECONOMICS EDUCATION PROGRAMME
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The criteria for admission into the B.Ed. Educational Management/ Economics Programme of MOUAU are as follows:

I, Admission policy:                                                                                                    

The admission into the B.Ed. Educational Management/Economics is done through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or Direct Entry by Joint Matriculation Board (JAMB). The entry requirements seek to ensure that those admitted have necessary aptitude to benefit from the programme.

II, Admission through UTME:                                                                                                            

Candidates seeking admission through UTME into the four-year B.Ed. degree programme in Educational Management/Economics should meet the university, College and Department standards as well as the specific programme with its option requirements. The candidates should possess at least credit passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any other two subjects at not more than two sittings in West African School Certificate (WASC) or West African Senior Secondary Certificate, General Certificate of Education (GCE O’ Level), National Examination Commission (NECO), or its equivalent. This should be a follow up to a satisfactory performance in the Joint Matriculation Examination Board (JAMB) and satisfactory performance in the Post- UTME Screening Interview conducted by the university.  

III, Admission by Direct Entry:                                                                             

Candidates seeking admission into the three-year B.Ed. degree programme in Educational Management/Economics by Direct Entry should possess in addition to the O’ Level requirements stated above, one of the following:                                                                         

i. Advance Level General Certificate of Education (GCE A’ Level) in at least two relevant subjects in not more than two sittings                                                                                          

ii. Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with an overall pass at MERIT level or above and minimum of credit in Economics from recognized institution.                                                            

iii. NCE at merit level in Economics will be placed at 100 level.

iv. Teachers’ Grade 11 Certificate with a minimum of five passes at MERIT level including English Language and Mathematics.

v. Diploma in Education or any other area

 

DURATION: The course lasts for four or five academic years depending on the entry qualification/mode (UTME or Direct Entry). Direct entry candidates with particular reference to holders of NCE/Diploma  will spend four academic years while all others will spend five academic years full time.

 
GRADUATION:

To graduate as B.Ed. Educational Management/Economics, the students have spent a minimum of three sessions for Direct Entry candidates or four sessions for UTME candidates. The period of teaching not less than 12 weeks is built into the programme.                                                                                                    

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:                                                                                         

Students in the programme are required to fully abide by all the regulations and guidelines of the University as contained in the students’ information handbook. This reflects the guideline on conduct of examinations, courses registration, grading, and scoring system, conditions for graduation and students discipline.

B.Ed. EDUCATIOPNAL MANAGEMENT/BIOLOGY DEGREE PROGRAMME

Candidates seeking admission through UTME into the four-year B.Ed. degree programme in Educational Management/Biology should meet the university, College and Department standards as well as the specific programme with its option requirements.
